Within Industrial Shipping a general trend is that shipping operators are expanding through acquisitions and mergers aimed at satisfying customer requirements and achieving economies of scale. Currently, the largest competitors are Österströms, Spliethof, Finnlines, DFDS Tor Line and Wagenborg. Competitors apply an aggressive approach in all segments and many newbuild programs are in progress. In addition, the business area is exposed to competition from other transport solutions, such as road and rail.
Within Offshore/Icebreaking the largest competitors, other than Maersk, are small shipping lines such as Finstaship, Rieber Shipping, FESCO, Prisco Wire and Trans Viking operate in this segment. However, many of the main players are reviewing the possibility of commencing operations in Russia or other Arctic areas.
