The unit comprises contract-focused bulk transports using medium and small ice-classified vessels in the Baltic Sea, the Mediterranean and the North Sea for primarily forest and steel industries. With its high-quality crews and efficient tonnage, TransAtlantic’s prospects for building a strong market position in the segment are considerable. Furthermore, TransAtlantic’s financial strength facilitates expansion through investments in new vessels or cooperation with other operators.
Three vessels operate the transatlantic route from Lübeck in the Baltic Sea and Zeebrugge in the North Sea, where Lübeck represents a common hub for most of our customers to create an efficient transport flow to the east coast of the US. The cargo consists primarily of coated paper, also called SC paper. It is classified as distinct perishable goods. This subjects both production and regular freight service based on just-in-time deliveries to meticulous and carefully specified demands.
After unloading in the US, newsprint from Canada is loaded for Europe, primarily the UK and the Continent.
We have three vessels that traffic the US east coast, loading in Canada and unloading in several harbors in the US and/or the Caribbean and Northern South America, such as Venezuela, Colombia and Puerto Rico. The Caribbean is a growth market that is expected to develop in the future.
Northbound cargo from the US to Canada consists of recycled paper and carbon anodes.
