Newsprint, coated tissue paper and other refined forest products are the dominant cargo in the Atlantic traffic. The routes commence from the production areas in Northern Europe and Canada to markets in the US, Europe and the Caribbean.

With specially built, modern tonnage and an expert organization, we offer transport services characterized by very high quality, frequency and time precision. Through developed and long-term logistics partnership with our customers, we are able to operate a unique customer and cargo-adapted transport service with exceptionally high freight safety.

Customer adaptation

Transatlantic Services AB is considerably more than only a carrier for customers. Efficient, safe and environmentally adapted sea transport using flexible and technologically updated vessels is the obvious framework. With a focus on just-in-time deliveries and efficient joint logistic solutions, we become a key partner in our customers’ total transport systems.

Development

Transatlantic Services AB’s operations are based on long-term customer relations and financial strength. The goal is to be a close partner to the forest industry in Scandinavia and Canada. Consequently, we emphasize the importance of continuous development of customer relations. Multi-year contracts for base volumes that are shipped from the major production areas to Europe and the US provide us with the best prerequisites for this.

Transatlantic RoRo traffic

Three vessels operate the transatlantic route from Lübeck in the Baltic Sea and Zeebrugge in the North Sea, where Lübeck represents a common hub for most of our customers to create an efficient transport flow to the east coast of the US. The cargo consists primarily of coated paper, also called SC paper. It is classified as distinct perishable goods. This subjects both production and regular freight service based on just-in-time deliveries to meticulous and carefully specified demands.

After unloading in the US, newsprint from Canada is loaded for Europe, primarily the UK and the Continent.

US east coast and the Caribbean

We have three vessels that traffic the US east coast, loading in Canada and unloading in several harbors in the US and/or the Caribbean and Northern South America, such as Venezuela, Colombia and Puerto Rico. The Caribbean is a growth market that is expected to develop in the future.

Northbound cargo from the US to Canada consists of recycled paper and carbon anodes.

Cargo handling

A crucial basic principle for us is to take the very best care of our customers’ cargo. We have also made considerable advances in our work on preventing cargo damage.

Since 1998, cargo damage has accounted for less than 0.5 per mille of the cargo value and it is still decreasing. Because paper is a very fragile and expensive product, minimizing cargo damage is a crucial part of our customer’s quality requirements.
